I decided to run for office because of my kiddos — the nearly 200 students in my World History classes. I witnessed firsthand the struggles they faced — learning in overcrowded classes of 40 students, dealing with hunger and housing insecurity, and their anxiety about the future due to climate change and the overturning of Roe v. Wade. I advocated relentlessly — at school boards, with policymakers, and through protests — but too often, our leaders failed to act. So I decided, “If they aren’t hearing our voices from outside the building, I’ll get inside the building and bring my community’s voices with me.” And that’s what I did.
